Sophie Clausen
Sophie Clausen
Sophie Clausen is a Danish artist who works internationally. She paints on canvas or discarded metal using various materials such as oil, fabric, paper, gold or silver leaf. Growing up by the sea in Helsingør, Denmark, her paintings are her own abstract memories of the sea and the sky. Sophie Clausen is interested in how color, flow and movement evoke emotions. She pours paint onto the canvas and lets the materials randomly find their own form and expression.
The artist holds a bachelor's degree in fine art and art history from Goldsmiths College, London, and a master's degree in art and design from Chelsea College of Art, London. In 2010 she was artist-in-residence at the Art Students League of New York. In 2022, she was commissioned by Kings College London to create a work of art as part of their Experiential Network: her work “I Am Only Human” was exhibited at Somerset House and the House of Literature in Lodz, Poland and is now located in their permanent collection. Her work has been exhibited in Denmark, the United Kingdom, New York and Central America.
