Mikael Siirilä
Mikael Siirilä
Mikael Siirilä, born in 1978, collects impressions and fragments from his everyday life and while traveling. In his photographs they are recontextualized and create space for associations. The individual photographs deal with the themes of absence, presence and outsiderness.
The works are based on snapshots and therefore reflect the artist's 'true observations', taken with minimal interaction with the subjects. “Their origin is in the act of looking, and they feel causally connected to the world,” writes the artist. "I seek small, quiet, poetic impressions that appear suspended in time, detached and solemn like unlabelled objects in a history museum."
The photographs are taken exclusively analogue with black and white film and are developed in a darkroom.
